Setting up a Jira Connector

You can configure a connection to Jira using a service account with the following steps.

All endpoints in the Jira Connector are documented in this Postman Collection.

Create Service Account Credentials

  1. Create a Service Account in Atlassian administration
  2. Open the Service Account > Apps tab
  3. Grant the service account access to Jira and any required Jira projects
  1. On the Service Account > Create credential tab, select OAuth 2.0 authentication type
  2. Provide a Name to the credential
  3. Filter App = Jira and Scope type = Classic
  4. Select all 7 Scopes in the list and click Next then Create
  1. Save the Client ID and Client secret somewhere safe, they will not be visible again.

Import the Jira REST Definition

  1. From the main Navigation Menu > Maintenance and then REST Services.
  1. On the REST Services page, click the Import Rest Service button.
  2. This opens the Import Rest Service window allowing you to upload the Json File linked here.

After you have selected the file, you can press the Process Import button.

Add a Jira Connector

  1. Log into SmartConnect.
  2. On the left side options column click Connections.
  3. On the Connections page click on the Create Connection button.

  4. On the New Connection page click on the Jira icon.
  5. The page to configure the Jira connection opens.
  6. Name – Enter the name of the connection.
  7. Username– Client ID generated previously.
  8. Password – Client Secret generated previously.
  9. Atlassian site cloud id – Your Atlassian Cloud Site’s Cloud ID.
  1. Click Save.
