Security Roles, Firewalls, and Virtual Networks
Security is critical and you now have more granular-level security features with roles, firewalls and virtual networks.
Roles
User Roles and Connector Roles allow for more fine-grained security control over who can view, add, and update your Popdock environment.
- User Roles- Assign a role to a User or Team to allow them to do things like set security or run schedules.
- Connector Roles- On each connector, roles can be utilized to control access to not only access to lists, but who can create lists, administer favorites or even publish new lists.
Firewalls and Virtual Networks
Firewalls can now be added to Popdock applications, widgets and API calls to restrict the IP addresses that can access them.
- Virtual Network-You can now create a group of IP addresses or ranges of IP addresses to be used in conjunction with our Firewall to restrict access.
- Firewalls-Setup access to the Application, API or Widgets (each widget can be configured separately as well). Assign a Virtual Network or specify other IP Addresses that will have access.

How to access this Popdock release
The November 2024 Popdock Release will automatically be applied during the weekend of 9 November 2024. To access, you’ll just need to log into your Popdock app.
Considerations
There are two areas where you will see changes when you log into Popdock after the new release: mainly, security and navigation.
Regarding security, the way you grant access to resources to users has changed to a two-tiered approach of roles granted at the User/Team level and Roles and resources granted at the Connector level. This change allows for a very granular way of granting permissions and you can even go down to the level of allowing or not allowing users to create favorites.
Important note: With the security enhancements, some roles that did not previously exist prior are included in this November 2024 Popdock Release. We highly recommend checking your security settings and the roles associated with your users. This article details the steps to review your security settings and the roles available prior to the November 2024 Popdock release map to the permissions associated with the roles included in this release.
The second big change you will see will be around navigation for how you access custom lists and go back. We have made this a lot easier, but if you are looking for your custom lists inside of the lists for your connector, well they aren’t there anymore. They have their own section at the same level as Lists. If you find anything that seems to be missing, look to the left sidebar and it is probably three times easier to access. The other change with navigation is that you won’t need to hit the Back button to go back a section, you can now simply click on that area in the breadcrumb to go back to exactly where you want.
So, while most users won’t notice much of a change, these are two areas for someone creating or updating lists or an administrator granting security access.

No, that has been handled in the upgrade and nothing will need to be done.

Yes, we have added another view called Cards that makes the grouping of data much easier to visualize.
Yes, if they are created in SmartList Builder or SmartList Designer they can be brought in as a new list.
Yes, if you install the Popdock Connector, there are two lists that keep track of the number of queries (Widget Usage and Entity Usage). There is even a favorite created for the current month.
Nothing is needed to get the update as this is cloud software, and you will be updated on November 9th.
