Adding a Dynamics GP Connector

Published: Sep 01, 2023

There are two options to connect Popdock to an on-premises server: a data gateway and a direct connection through a firewall. Both options utilize encryption to secure your data in transit but have different requirements to configure. You can learn more about the two options by watching this video:

Connecting to GP Using a Direct Connection vs Using a GP Gateway

If the data gateway is selected for the connection method, we also encourage you to watch the following videos:

The Dynamics GP Gateway: SQL Side
The Dynamics GP Gateway: Network Side

The Dynamics GP connector gives you access to SmartLists in Financial, Sales, Purchasing, Inventory, Field Service, Project Accounting, Manufacturing, Fixed Assets, Payroll, Human resources, and SmartLists created using SmartList Builder and SmartList Designer.

How to add a Dynamics GP connector

1. Select Connectors from the left navigation to open the Connectors page.

Main menu in Popdock with Connectors highlighted.

2. Select Add connector.

3. Select the Dynamics GP connector. This will open a new window to start the creation of the connector.

4. Use the Connection type drop down menu to select the connection type you choose during your GP Gateway setup, either Token or Basic Authentication. If you did not install the GP Gateway select SQL Server login.

Add connector-Dynamic GP screen.

· Gateway with Token Authentication: In the Gateway URL field, choose the URL that was used in IIS, and then use the token you created during setup.

· Gateway with Basic Authentication: In the Gateway URL field, choose the URL that was used in IIS, then enter the Username and Password that you created during set up.

· SQL Server login: Enter your SQL Server address in the Server field. This may be a web address or an IP address. In the Port field, enter the port number if you are using something other than the default port.  Enter the name of the Database and enter the database’s Username and Password.

This is not your Dynamics GP login. Those logins cannot be used to log in to the SQL Server database from any application other than Dynamics GP. We recommend that you create a new SQL Server user for Popdock.

· Sample data: Select Sample data to load sample GP data. You can use this for testing purposes using sample GP data. See the following Knowledge Base article for more information: Adding a Sample Data Connector.

5. Once you have entered all the information, select Connect. It may take a couple of minutes while the connector is initialized. If you have a large number of lists built with SmartList Builder, it may take up to 10 minutes to complete.
