SmartConnect has been on the market for over 15 years. In that time, we have helped thousands of companies automate their most critical business processes, integrated billions of records, and connected systems that were never designed to talk to each other. That track record matters to us. It is the reason we made the decision to rebuild SmartConnect from the ground up.
We spent the better part of the last year doing the hardest kind of product work: tearing down a foundation that worked and replacing it with one that will carry our customers forward to the AI-powered workflow era. We did it because the landscape has changed. The systems our customers connect to are more complex. The volume of data moving between them is larger. The expectations for speed, visibility, and control are higher than they have ever been. SmartConnect needed to meet that moment.
Here is what we changed and why.
Built for the People Who Build Integrations
Every decision we made started with one question: what does this mean for the person sitting in front of SmartConnect every day?
That person is a consultant configuring a complex multi-entity integration, an IT lead managing 40 scheduled jobs across three systems, or a finance team member who just needs their journal entries to post reliably every morning. These are the people we built this for, and every feature in this release traces back to making their work faster, clearer, and more reliable.
A New Infrastructure That Gets Out of Your Way
The previous architecture served us well, but it accumulated complexity over 15 years. Technical debt stacked up, and design decisions that made sense 15 years ago weren’t able to keep up.
- Simplified databases — We reduced the number of joins and records required for core operations. The result is a leaner, faster data layer so you can build faster.
- Unified caching — Every service now shares the same cache. When something updates, every part of the platform knows about it at the same time.
- Distributed processing — Every integration now runs on its own isolated service. No more shared queues[RW2.1], no more one workload impacting another.
A Modern Experience with Full Visibility
We moved SmartConnect to a modern React-based UI aligned with the eOne brand. If you have used the latest version of Popdock, the experience will feel immediately familiar.
- In-app help — Context-sensitive guidance is built into every screen. Gone are the days of searching through documentation to find the one article that matches where you are.
- Real-time monitoring and control — A redesigned health dashboard shows how integrations are performing, lets you watch running processes live, and cancel anything immediately if something goes wrong.
The Lifecycle Management Teams Need
In the previous version, every change was live the moment you saved it. That worked when one person owns an integration, but it does not work when teams are collaborating on complex integrations.
- Drafts — You can now edit an integration without affecting the live version. Test your changes, review them, and deploy when you are ready.
- Granular Security — Define exactly who can do what. Assign roles, restrict access to specific connectors or integrations, and give your team the right level of control.
- Audits — Every change to a connector, source, or integration is tracked. Who changed it, when, and what they changed.
Built for the AI Era
Your team is already using AI assistants. The next generation of SmartConnect brings even more skills they can use.
- Full API with CRUD Capabilities — Coming shortly after release, you will be able to create, read, update, and delete everything in SmartConnect programmatically.
- MCP Server and Plugins — SmartConnect will ship with a powerful MCP server and plugins that give AI assistants direct access to the platform.
This is where things get fun!
- For implementors — Hand your AI assistant a statement of work and it can generate a starting point for every integration in the project: source queries, mappings, and logic scaffolded from the requirements. Spend your time refining and tuning, not building from scratch.
- For end users — Wondering why a customer record never made it into your ERP? Ask your AI assistant. It connects to SmartConnect, checks the relevant integration configurations and logs, and comes back with an answer. No digging through run history. No support tickets. Just a question and a clear explanation.
- SmartConnect plugin — Later this year, we will release a dedicated SmartConnect plugin that bundles the MCP with all the skills integration builders need to automate their integration workflows from within the AI tools they already use.
The Next Generation of SmartConnect: Just the Beginning
We rebuilt SmartConnect because the people who rely on it every day deserve a platform that keeps up with them and provides a trusted foundation built to deliver what comes next.
That delivery is already underway. Deeper source-level capabilities, multi-source integrations, new connectors, and the SmartConnect plugin are all on the roadmap. This is the pace the new architecture was designed to support.
