On November 9th, 2024, Popdock released a major update that changed how some of the security is handled along with a number of other major changes and fixes. You can find more information about this release here.
After this update if you have lost certain features like the ability to export to Excel, PDF, or Text format then this could be due to the update. The following sections will help if you have:
- No export option on the Popdock web application
- No export option on your widgets like your main Business Central widget in your environment.
To complete the following you will need to be a user on the Popdock Account to login with and your user will need to have the SecurityAdministrator role.
Adding Exporter Roles in the Popdock Web Application
The following steps will add Exporter roles to a User or Team. If you have multiple users you want to have the export option, then it is best to add your users all to a team and configure exporter roles at a team level. As more users get added to Popdock, you can add them to a Team. From there, they receive all the security roles that you are given to that Team.
- Click on the Popdock main menu and go to Security.
- By default you should be on Users (click on Teams if you are configuring a team), find the user/team you want to give exporter roles to and click the pencil icon next to their user so you can edit their security.
- Now you will be on the security for this specific user/team. Each user/team has roles at the connector level and at the user/team level. Here you want to configure their roles on the connector that they have access to so click on the connector.
- Here you have some bullet options at the top, by default you are on Roles. This is where to configure what roles you want the user/team to have for the specific connector. Click the “+Add role” button at the top right to see what roles are available. Each role has a brief description of what it will allow them to do.
- Under the Export section, you have three available roles to assign:
- ExcelExporter – Can export data to Excel
- PdfExporter – Can export data to a PDF
- TextExporter – Can export data to a text file when you are in the Text view.
- Check the box next to the roles you want your user/team to have then click Add.
Adding Exporter Roles For Popdock Widgets
When using widgets the creator of the widget becomes the owner by default. This means that the widget will automatically use the roles and token assigned to this user. If you have a Business Central connector that gets a widget created by default, the owner will be who created the connector. With the Popdock update, if your Business Central widget is no longer showing the export option, you should follow these steps.
- Identify the owner of the widget by editing the widget and seeing if there is a user/team assigned to the Security section of the Widget. From the main Popdock menu, click on Widgets.
- Click the Pencil icon (Edit) next to the widget you want to review security for.
- Next click on Security in the left navigation menu.
- If you are using the user/team showing under Security, confirm they have the Exporter role that you want them to have by following the above steps for Adding Exporter Roles in the Popdock Web Application.
- If you do not see the user/team listed under Security, then proceed by adding a user/team to the widget. To add a user, click the +Add user button at the top right. To add a team, switch to the team page by clicking on the radio button next to Teams, then click the link to add a team or the +Add Team button at the top right if you already have a team showing.
