Receiving an error when running a SmartConnect map that says “Could not retrieve next number in the sequence”.  This may or may not be followed by a second error that says, “The execute permission denied on the E1_SC_GetNextNumber”

This can be caused by 1 of 2 things.  Either the stored procedures don’t exist in the company you are importing to, or the user you are running the map as cannot get the next document number.  The following steps will fix both issues.

1.  Open SmartConnect and go to the Setup tab and click the Setup button.

2.  Highlight the SmartConnect Dynamics GP Connector and hit the Connector setup button.

3.  In the MS GP Connector Setup window there is a check box that says “Use Credentials”.  Check and see if there is a user listed there.  If there is no user filled in there, SmartConnect will try to use your windows credentials to get the next document number.  Since you normally don’t want to give Windows users access to SQL, it’s best to check the box, and put a default SQL user in there. I typically put the sa in there, however if you want you can create a new SQL user, and make them a member of the DYNGRP for the DYNAMICS and all company databases, and they will have enough rights to get the next number.

4.  Click Save on the MS GP Connector Setup window and click OK on the SmartConnect Setup Window.

5.  If you have made changes, it typically will prompt you to run the system maintenance.  If it does, click yes to allow the maintenance to run.  During the maintenance it will create the stored procedures in each GP company.

6.  If you did not get prompted to run the maintenance, then click on the Setup tab again, and click on the System Maintenance button.   Hit process to run the maintenance which will create the stored procedures for you.
