HTTP Error 403.14 – Forbidden when browsing the SmartConnect web client

When attempting to browse the SmartConnect web client, the browser window reports an error that says “HTTP Error 403.14 – Forbidden” followed by an additional message that says “The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory.”  What is causing this?

This means you do not have the ASP.NET components installed on your IIS server.

1. Go to Start – Administrative Tools – Server Manager

2. Click on “Add roles and features”

3. Click on Features

4. Expand the .NET Framework 3.5 Features and .NET Framework 4.5 Features. At the very minimum mark all the components shown in the screenshot below.

5. After installing the features restart the SmartConnect web client service by going into IIS Manager highlighting the service and pressing the restart button on the right.
