Manually updating an extension in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is sometimes necessary when automatic updates are disabled or when dealing with custom extensions that require controlled deployment. Additionally, Microsoft does not force updates until a major version change, so this step may be necessary. Below are steps required for manually installing a new version of the Popdock extension in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

If you’d like to watch a video explaining this, see below or click here.

1. Copy the data being used for the current Popdock extension.

Before you begin the setup of the new version of the extension, you need to copy the information from the Popdock Setup tab within BC. This information will be used in the new version of the extension.

2. Uninstall the current version of the extension.

Once you have the information from the Popdock Setup, you will need to uninstall the extension. The extension to be uninstalled is Popdock for Dynamics 365 Business Central. You will uninstall it from the environment as well as unpublish it to remove completely. You will also select the option to Remove extension data as well.

3. Download the new version of the extension from AppSource.

Download the newest version of the main extension from Microsoft AppSource when upgrading it inside of BC. To get there, use the search in BC to go to Microsoft AppSource Apps. Select the three dots in the task bar and then click Go to AppSource. In AppSource, use the search and search for “Popdock”. Then you will want to select the app named Popdock for Dynamics 365 Business Central. This is the extension you will download. You will then select the environment you want to add the extension to.

4. Put the information from Step 1 into the Popdock Setup menu for the new extension.

Once you have installed the new extension, you will then input the information saved from Step 1 into the Popdock Setup menu for the new extension. Once you have completed this, you are set to use BC and Popdock together again.
