Depending on your requirements, your Flexicoder configuration can be simple or very complex. After configuring Flexicoder it is a good idea to save your current configuration. There is an import and export utility built into Flexicoder that can be used at any time to back up your existing recoding settings.
In Flexicoder, depending on where you make the recoding changes, the settings will roll down to the modules/documents/distributions and overwrite the existing settings. We have an article explaining exactly how this roll down works here: Flexicoder Rolldown Behavior. We run into quite a few people who inadvertently make changes at the wrong level, which will overwrite all the existing settings. By making periodic backups you can eliminate this issue in case it accidentally happens to you.
So before making any change to your Flexicoder setup, it is always advisable to make a backup of the existing settings in case you make an unintentional change. To perform a backup of your current Flexicoder settings, do the following.
- Open the Flexicoder setup window. (Tools – Setup – Sales – Flexicoder)
- In the Flexicoder setup window, select Options – Maintenance – Export. Path the file out to a folder location you have access to and give the file a name. After giving it a location and name, hit the “Save” button.
- This will create an XML file that is a complete backup of all your recoding settings. You can now safely make updates to your Flexicoder setup.
- If you change something inadvertently, or make a change you want to undo, you can restore the backup of the Flexicoder settings and instantly get back to how your Flexicoder settings were configured when you made the backup.
- If you need to restore a backup, just open the Flexicoder Setup window again (Tools – Setup – Sales – Flexicoder). Once the window opens go to Options – Maintenance – Import. Browse out to the location of the XML file and select it, then him the Import button.
- After the file finishes importing, all your recoding configuration will be exactly as they were when the backup was performed.
