Using Multifactor Authentication in Popdock is a straightforward process. Tip #1: Utilize the same app for all users
This may seem self-explanatory, but utilizing a single MFA app for all your users can save a lot of headaches down the road. The goal of each application is to add an extra layer of security, but the execution differs from app to app.
For example, Microsoft Authenticator will generate a code number that needs to be entered in the app, while Google Authenticator will give you a code in the app that refreshes on a timed cycle that must be entered in Popdock. Requiring your users to utilize the same app for Popdock will assist in any issues that could arise, as well as keep consistency across the team.
Tip #2: Use “Enabled for select users” rather than “Enabled for all users”
Utilizing the “Enabled for select users” option over the “Enabled for all users” option is a better practice for potential issues that could pop up down the road. The most common issue would be that a user gets a new device and needs their MFA reset. By using the “select users” option, you will simply be able to turn off and turn back on the MFA for that user. Doing so prompts them to set up a new MFA connection with Popdock that they can create with their new device.
If you chose to use the “all users” option, you would be required to turn off MFA outright and re-enable it. This will require all users to create a new MFA connection with Popdock, which is not efficient or necessary. The “select users” option also allows for specifics when it comes to MFA. You can require your users to utilize it, without needing to enforce it for Administrator accounts or any other accounts, as deemed necessary.
