Overview
Get a jump start on integrating data into Dynamics 365 Business Central using SmartConnect!  The sample integrations show how to import data from Excel or csv files into 21 different Dynamics 365 Business Central pages.  Each map can be used as-is or can be used as a great starting point to customize further.  Each integration includes a SmartConnect map and an excel data source.  The provided maps integrate to:

General Information

The Dynamics 365 Business Central Sample maps consist of 21 different maps and an Excel or CSV data source for each map. Every map is a bulk map and set to use an Excel spreadsheet as a data source. The data sources each contain a small number of records and contain enough fields to run, but more columns can be added. Every map is included in the main download zip file, but each map can be used as a stand-alone integration and do not need to be executed in a specific order.

Prerequisites to using these templates are as follows:
  • Have a valid Dynamics 365 Business Central organization set up
  • SmartConnect 20.17 or higher installed and registered
  • D365 Business Central Connector already configured within SmartConnect
The overall process to using each map is:
  1. Set Up D365 Business Central Web Services to Allow Integrations
  2. Import map files(s)
  3. Update file path to data source
  4. Review mapping (and customize if desired)

Set Up Dynamics 365 Business Central Web Services to Allow Integrations

D365 Business Central requires a page object to be published before any applications can interact with them through a web service. Because every map is sending data into Business Central, a page for every map must be published. To publish a page, view the eOne help article. To set up 365 Business Central in SmartConnect view the eOne help article. Below is a list of pages to publish.  The number in parenthesis is the Object ID.  The map name and map description show which map references that particular page.  Only publish the pages that have a map you want to integrate with.

Import Map Files

  1. Download the "Dynamics 365 Business Central 2017 Maps.sce" file.
  2. From the Maintenance tab in SmartConnect, click Import Wizard.
  3. Browse to the downloaded maps file and click next. The next window will show everything in the import file.
  4. To import everything, click next. If you don't want to import all the maps, check only the maps you wish to use.
  5. Once the maps are imported, the map has to be set up and reviewed before running. The process is similar for all maps so only the "IMP_NAV_ITEMS" map will be shown below.

Steps to Setting Up Map

  1. From SmartConnect, double click the "IMP_NAV_ITEMS" map name to open the Map Setup window.
  2. An error may appear if the source workbook cannot be found. If so, enter a new Excel Workbook path by browsing to a new workbook and re-selecting the Sheet.
  3. Expand the Destination section of the map setup window to see the mapped nodes.  The "Service Name" is the same name given on the Web Services window in Dynamics NAV.  The "Service URL" also comes from the Web Services page in the "SOAP URL" column. To inspect the mapping, double click a mapped node to open it.
  4. In the SmartConnect Mapping window, the "Source Columns" section lists all of the columns in the Excel or CSV source file. In the "Destination Columns" section, the Name column shows all the possible Dynamics GP fields to map to, and the "Column Name" column shows which source column data will come from.  Many of the fields have a "...Specified" field to go with it.  These fields are booleans that tell NAV that the field is to be used.  Not every field has a  "...Specified" field, but that is something to look for when customizing any templates!
  5. After the "SmartConnect Mapping" window has been reviewed and modified if necessary, run the map.
