On November 9th, 2024, Popdock released a major update that changed how some of the security is handled in the application, along with a number of new features and bug fixes. You can find more information about this release here.
If you see issues after this update with your API Endpoints that you use in Excel or PowerBI, it could be due to the extra security that is required now for your endpoints. Follow these steps to help determine if your endpoint needs to have your token added to security for the endpoint.
Quick Test To See What Your Endpoint Is Returning
1. Go to the Popdock main menu and then select API.
2. Find an endpoint that stopped working and click Edit next to the endpoint to edit it.

3. Next in the left navigation menu, click API endpoints.

4. Here you have the Data endpoints at the top showing the endpoint to use to return data. Click the Test API endpoint icon to test your endpoint.

5. If you click Send and it returns an error like this, then you are missing security on the endpoint. You will need to add a user or team with a token that can be used for security. Follow the next steps to add a user or team to your endpoint.

Adding An Authorized User or Team to Your Endpoint
When you set up users or teams, you have an option to create a token. This token is used across widgets and endpoints to grant access to a user or team to return data. If you are sharing an endpoint with others and don’t want to share your user token, then you can create a team or API user to generate a new token. By doing so, you do not have to share your user token, and in the event you leave your company and you are removed as a user from your company’s Popdock account, then other users won’t lose their data access if they were also using your token. By having their own tokens, users and/or teams would retain their access to the endpoint.
1. Select API from the main menu.
2. Select Edit next to the endpoint you want to grant security access to.

3. Click Security in the left navigation menu.
4. Select Add a user. If there already are users added, select Add user in the upper right. The user must have a token that has been assign to them. The token for the added user will be used in the request header for the endpoint to return data.
5. Place a checkmark next to the user or team in the list and then click Add. This will add the user or team to the security for the endpoint. The token assigned to them will now be sent in with the URL and data can be returned. Follow the steps in the top section to test it again.
6. If you are still getting an error here, it is possible the user does not have the correct role to query the API for the connector that the data is coming from. This KB will show you how to add the APIQueryData role to the user/team here.
