This article will demonstrate how to use the Set Variable parameter type to filter a Popdock widget by a list of values. This approach is particularly useful when a field in one system maintains multiple identifiers linked to a record, allowing you to dynamically filter a widget to display a record for each of the identifiers in the field.

Overview

In this example, a Popdock widget receives a list of three item numbers as input and filters a Business Central item list to display a record for each item.

In the example below, you can see how a field with multiple values in Salesforce is used to filter a Popdock widget to bring back an entry for each of these item numbers.

1. Create your widget. This example is using a single list widget with data coming from the Item list from a Business Central connector.

2. Edit the source list and add a variable.

  • From the main menu, select Connectors.
  • Locate the connector that contains the list you are using for the widget.
  • Edit the list by selecting the edit icon.

  • In the navigation pane, select Variables.
  • Select Add a user variable.

  • Configure the variable. In the Name field, enter a descriptive name, like “Items Numbers”. You can leave the Default Value blank, as the widget will dynamically update this value. Select the Required checkbox, to make the variable required.

3. Add a restriction to filter the list.

  • Configure the restriction. Select the Field you want to set the restriction on. Select One of list for the Restriction type. Set the Value field to Variable and then select the variable you created earlier.

4. Configure the widget parameters.

You can select Preview to test the functionality by entering a list of item numbers (e.g., “1001, 1002, 1003”). Verify that the widget displays records for each item in the input list.

5. Optionally, you can make the widget dynamics in Salesforce.

You can now publish and display the widget in Salesforce by following the steps here.

By following this process, you can dynamically filter a Popdock widget by a list of values. This setup is ideal for scenarios where fields in Salesforce or other systems contain multiple identifiers from another system.
