Setting up a Dynamics 365 Business Central Connection

Published: Sep 12, 2018
  1. From the main Navigation Menu, select Connections.
  2. On the Connections page, click on the Create Connection button.
  3. On the New Connection Page, select Dynamics 365 Business Central OData.
    • SmartConnect works with OData v4 endpoints in Business Central, earlier versions of OData (v3, v2, etc. are not supported).
    • It is recommended to use the OData endpoints versus the older SOAP endpoints when connecting to Business Central. Consider switching old connections to OData moving forward.
  4. Enter a Description for this connection.
  5. Enter the Service URL. This URL will be the base portion of the ODataV4 webservice endpoint, ie: https://api.businesscentral.dynamics.com/v2.0/<tenant guid here>/Production/ODataV4/
    • The base portion of the web service URL can be found on the Web Services page from within Business Central.
  6. Enter a Username. This should be a full user within Dynamics 365 Business Central.
    • Ensure the User Name from Business Central is used, not the Full Name or Contact Email from the user record in Business Central.
  7. Enter the user’s Web Service Access Key. This is generated on the user card within Dynamics 365 Business Central.
  8. Click Validate to connect to the Dynamics 365 Business Central tenant.
  9. Select the Default Company to connect to.
  10. The other options should be left at the default values on the Connection page unless issues arise connecting to a specific Business Central tenant.
    • Allow Retry of Failed Requests can be enabled if records are rejected by Business Central during integration executions. Maximum Retry Count can be set to determine how many attempts are made for a specific record.
    • Allow Long Timeout and the Timeout Minutes options can be set when connecting to Business Central tenants in other regions and the tenant takes longer than expected to respond.
  11. Click Save.
