Unable to update field from node builder

I have a custom node that I have built in node builder.
I am updating fields in SalesPad tables.
I have several fields in this table that I am able to update just fine. I have a new field that whatever I try to do, I am not able to update the field with anything.
The table appears to have a blank added to the field. not a NULL.
Also I am able to write to the field from within SalesPad just fine.
