SQL Validation Task >> Modify Error – Datasource name not found and no default driver specified

SC Version – 20.16.1.24/GP 2015
To check if my excel template GL accounts are valid or not, I created a sql validation task in the Map Pre Tasks >>Map Data Checks.  I created a view to use since I need to make sure it only checks the active GL accounts – joined GL00105 and GL00100.
After defining the connection (I used custom connection and saved connection) and then select the GL00105 table, when I click modify, I get the “Datasource name not found and no default driver specified”.  Since I cannot open the smartconnect query, I put the result of the view into a table so I was able to check that the validation is working.  But of course I cannot use that table as new accounts get setup and table doesn’t get updated.
When I tried to create a real time data source and define the very same connection, I can open smartconnect query and I can change the table to a view I created but I couldn’t use that in the sql validation.  Can someone please help me as I have been trying to resolve this issue for days now?
Thank you!

You can open the Define window in the SQL Realtime datasource but not from the Data Checks window?  That would be unexpected and surprising to me.
Far as I’m aware, these windows should be using either 32bit SQL Native Client 10.0 or SQL Native Client 11.0 drivers and it should depend on the destination SQL server version that you are using.  Assuming you are using the same SQL destination, I can’t explain the difference.
However for good measure, check your ODBC Admin and verify that you have the 32 bit version of SQL Native Client 10.0 & 11.0 and this should work.
