SmartConnect Service Will Not Start

johnellis asked 10 years ago
Hello:

The SmartConnect Windows Service will not start.  Upon trying to start the service, we get a message saying, "The eOne SmartConnect service on Local Computer started and then stopped.  Some services stop automatically if they are not in user by other programs and services."

What are some items to check to make sure that this service can be started?

Thanks!  Much appreciated!

Hi John,

This is going to be an issue with the setup of your SmartConnect regarding your connectors and variables. If your SmartConnect setup is not correct, the windows service will not start-up.

Use the "Installation -> Installing SmartConnect -> SmartConnect Setup" page from the manual to go through each of your connectors and variables to make sure that they are all defined and setup correctly. Be sure that those connectors work.

Then go through the  "Installation -> Installing SmartConnect -> SmartConnect Installation -> SmartConnect Windows Service" to confirm that the windows service is setup correctly, and attempt to start it again.

I hope this helps and let us know how you go and whether you have further issues.

Regards,
Ken

The first thing I will do is jump into the Event Viewer where the service is running and chek the SmartConnect log for any issues.

Usually when the Service doesn't start, this event log will give you a good idea of what to look for.

Thanks Ruaan! A+ Yes, the Event Viewer but there may not be a “Smart Connect” log, it may be buried in the standard Applications log.
I had this issue, as it turns out, someone had checked the “Create Real Time Trigger” option on one of the maps, but the source folder didn’t exist. Remove the trigger, start the service – poof, sorted.
