Ian,
When you are doing the install, the install needs to connect to SQL in order to potentially create the SmartConnect database and create the SmartConnect user.
You had to enter in credentials for this – you chose “dba” apparently.
And that you get the error:
Login failed for user ‘dba’
Would seem to imply the user exists but the password is wrong. Although I suppose it doesn’t have access to the SmartConnect database.
I would consider using “sa” credentials for the install.
