Resetting ‘SmartConnect’ SQL DB password

Aaron asked 10 years ago
Is it possible to reset the 'SmartConnect' SQL DB password?

If so, how can this be done?

Also, will this impact application users ability to use the Smart Connect application? Does anything need to change on the application side?

I’m having the same issue. How can I reset the SQL DB password without having to reinstall the whole product? I ran the Modify under Uninstall Programs in Control Panel, but wasn’t presented with an option to change the SQL DB password for the SmartConnect security principal on SQL Server.

Mariano,
Go into SQL Server Management Studio. Change the SmartConnect SQL User Password.
Then go to the SmartConnect program directory and launch eOne.SmartConnect.Config.exe as administrator
Enter the SQL Server where SmartConnect database is located and the SmartConnect User Password that you just created.

Click Save to update SmartConnect with that new password.

You will need to do that on each machine where SmartConnect is installed.

Hello,

I’m trying to accomplish the same thing. I have found the eOne.SmartConnect.Config.exe. To test it out, I copied the current config out to another directory. I then ran the EXE as administrator and entered in all necessary information, login IDs and password for both Test and Prod that we currently used (no changes yet). When I saved the config, I compared the new one to the original one. Even though both used the same server name, database name, user ID and passwords, the
values were different. Using the New config, all of our Map IDs were gone as well as all the user accounts. I copied the original config file into C:\Program Files (x86)\eOne Solutions\SmartConnect, overwriting the new config file. Relaunched SmartConnect and everything is back to normal.

Do we know how the encrypted key values are derived? Is there a way I can encrypt only the user ID and new password and paste it into the eOne.SmartConnect.Setup.config file without using the EXE? Or better yet, when I do use the EXE to create a new config file, why does all the Map ID and user accounts disappear?

Thank you,

Levi

Update: When using the config.exe, I’ve been using DYNAMICS as the database name. When I created a new config using our current server, sql user ID and password with database name SmartConnect, it worked – all maps and user IDs showed up in the application. We updated the password on the DB side, I ran the config.exe again using the new password, and everything looks normal. My issue is resolved.
