Minimum Requirements for Windows Service Account

Chris Wan asked 8 years ago
Hello, I am currently working with a strict IT department and they need to know what the minimum requirements for SmartConnect Windows Service account are. I have looked at the documentation and the documentation states a high level of security and is high level. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
SmartConnect Windows Service is used by scheduled maps to run integrations. This user must also be set up within SmartConnect after installation has been completed. This user will be used as the default user for all scheduled integrations (unless a user has been specified on the scheduled map) and as such should have security to access/run all SmartConnect integrations.
I am looking for the same answer.  While the installaiton documentation does not include any special prerequisites, eOne KB articles such as KBA-01225-W3K3D5 indicate that the service account needs to be a local administrator.  For a security conscious environment that can be considered high risk.

When running a SmartConnect map, getting an error that says "The source was not found, but some or all event logs could not be searched.  To create the source, you need permission to real all event logs and to make sure that the new source name is unique.  Inaccessible logs: Security"

Solution
This message means that the account assigned to the eConnect service does not have administrative rights on the local machine.  To resolve this, do the following:

1. Go to Start – Run and type in Services.msc
2. In the services window, find the "eConnect for Microsoft Dynamics 20XX Integration Service"
3. Right click on it and go to Properties. Then go to the Log On tab, write down the User ID that is used there.

Go into computer management on the same machine, and add the user you wrote down to the local machines administrators group.

Then eConnect will be able to write to the event log.
