Extender Import Match On Partial Key

JenniferW asked 7 years ago
Hi

We have an Extender window we need to import info into.  This window is attached to our Customer Maintenance window so the key field is the customer id.  Our customer id in GP is 99999999-99.  The customer id in the data we have to import is 99999999.  So, the first 8 digits will match between GP and the import data but it isn't a 100% match.  So, is there a way with Extender to be able to do an import even though the customer id in the data to import is missing the '-99' that is included in the customer id in GP?  I am guessing no but thought I would ask.  We have Extender Enterprise but it doesn't look like that has anything for import that the regular Extender doesn't have.

Thanks!
Jennifer

Extender should import the data for you as long as the data is valid for the field. It doesn’t check with the GP data to make sure there is a matching record for the key. I wouldn’t recommend doing this though. This would put a bunch of data in the Extender tables that you wouldn’t be able to retrieve in the Extender windows you have. It would just be stranded data in the tables. Is there be a reason you would want to import the data for a customer that doesn’t exist in GP that we are not understanding?

Hi Nicole

Thanks for the response.  I didn't want to import data for a customer that didn't exist in GP.  In our GP for some of our customers we have a customer id of 99999999-99.  We had gotten some data from an outside system that we needed to put into GP that only had the first 8 digits of the customer id (ex. 99999999).  We thought that if Extender could be told to just match the first 8 digits of the customer id that would save us some work of updating the data we got from the outside system with the full customer id that we use in GP.  We ended up just updating the customer id's in the outside data and then importing it in using Extender.

Thanks

Glad to hear you were able to get the data updated. Just to let you know, Extender wouldn’t be able to add the -99 in the import process. The import process for data in Extender is basically going to import the data as is.

SmartConnect, which is an integration product that we have, is able to do this type of data modification when the data is being imported. You can setup the map to add the digits you want to the Customer ID and it will do that as the data is imported.

If you would like more information about SmartConnect, please let us know. We would be happy to setup a demo or talk with you about it.
