EDI

Pieter asked 7 years ago
Good day, we recently started using SmartConnect (Which btw works brilliant), we would like to start using it for our EDI integration in GP2010, GP2013. Does someone have any kind of documentation on the setup for EDI on SmartConnect or point me in the right direction? Thank you

Hi Pieter,

Though I've not used SmartConnect for EDI integration so far, I don't think it's very different in the approach as for any other integration tools (I used Scribe in the past for EDI to GP).
There is probably no out-of-the-box map to do integration of EDI to GP, unless eOne has some hidden in there treasure box… 🙂

basically you need to pull the informations out of the various EDI file formats (850, 855, 810, 820, 856, etc… ) and translate them to usable data for the document creation process in GP (i.e. SOP, POP, INV, Payment, etc..)

Input to GP is one thing, output is another thing… you'll probably have to write a maping going in the opposite direction from GP to EDI, for the documents you need to generate to your customers.

sometimes your acknolegement files (997) can be generated automatically by your EDI transmission host/partner every time your receive a new document in your inbox.

In my previous company we used to have an integrated EDI module in GP (vSync), but it was so painfull to maintain, that we decided to drop it and do our own integration with Scribe. It requires quite a bit of work, but at the end it's worth the effort.

Pieter,

We have used SmartConnect to import/export EDI files however there is not an out of the box source or destination for EDI files so we use the script tasks available in SmartConnect to translate the data.

To read EDI data, we will use a Pre-Map task to translate the EDI file to XML and then use that XML file as the Data Source.

To Export to EDI, I reverse that process to export data to XML and then write a post map task to translate the XML to the EDI File layout.

Hope that helps.
