Double source column import

Dan asked 3 years ago
SC version is 20.18.1.14   I am importing an excel file into a sql table.  I am using folder data source and one of my source columns is pulling in as Double.  The issue I am having is many of the values in this column start with 0 and they come in as blanks.  I tried to convert the source to a string but then they come in as 0 instead of blanks.  The other records are good.  Any ideas?

” I tried to convert the source to a string but then they come in as 0 instead of blanks.”
By that do you mean that you change the column format from General to Text?
It isn’t clear what exactly you want this column to be.
That you said “convert source to a string” suggests that you mean text/string – but then I don’t see any reason ODBC would read the data and set it to 0 unless the field really was 0.
Best Practice from a SC/ODBC perspective that when using Excel as a source you make sure that the source file column is always set to the correct format vs “general”.  You don’t want ODBC to be guessing at your data.

The folder data source doesn’t not give me an option for ODBC does it?

Dan,
A folder data source will not give you the ODBC option. If you need to use an ODBC source with a Folder data source you will need to replicate a Folder data source as shown in this article.
